Ex-Mutants #10

Ex-Mutants #10 was released in 1993 during the final stretch of the Malibu Comics series. Originally launched in 1986 by Eternity Comics, the franchise centered on a group of mutants created by a scientist to populate a post-apocalyptic Earth. By the time this issue was published, the series had moved to the Ultraverse imprint, reflecting a period when independent publishers were attempting to compete with the dominant superhero output of Marvel and DC by utilizing more gritty, visceral art styles.

The creative direction for this era of the series was heavily influenced by the aesthetic trends of the early 1990s, characterized by bold linework and dramatic anatomical exaggeration. While the series initially garnered interest for its unique premise and dark world-building, it faced challenges in maintaining a consistent tone as it transitioned between publishers. Issue #10 represents a late entry in the title’s run, serving as a snapshot of the experimental and turbulent nature of the 1990s independent comic book market.
