Where it came from
Excellent Property, Rejects for Residents emerged as an independent zine series during the late 2010s, capturing the stark, often humorous realities of urban gentrification and housing mismanagement. The project was conceived by artist and writer Jordan P. M. as a satirical critique of the property market, utilizing a mix of found photography, surrealist collages, and acerbic commentary to document the 'rejects' of the housing sector—spaces and infrastructure deemed undesirable by contemporary developers.
Issue number 5 focuses specifically on the aesthetic of planned obsolescence, featuring hand-drawn architectural schematics that blend brutalism with speculative fiction. The design aesthetic intentionally mirrors low-budget construction fliers and property listings, a stylistic choice intended to subvert the polished language of real estate marketing. Upon its limited-run release, the zine garnered a dedicated following within independent publication circles for its biting social commentary and distinct, xerox-inspired visual language.
