Excalibur #99

Excalibur #99 was published by Marvel Comics in July 1996 as part of a long-running series centered on a British-based team of mutants. This issue belongs to the mid-nineties era of the title, which often navigated complex shifts in creative direction and tone as the X-Men franchise underwent broader editorial realignments. The story, written by Warren Ellis with art by Carlos Pacheco, continues the team's adventures following the group's departure from its original, whimsical roots toward a more grounded and sometimes darker narrative style.

The visual identity of this era was heavily influenced by Pacheco's clean, dynamic linework, which became a staple for the series during his tenure. Ellis focused on tightening the group's interpersonal dynamics and pushing the stakes of their missions. As a mid-tier issue in a series known for its eclectic roster and British cultural references, it represents a moment of transition for the characters as they dealt with ongoing threats, reflecting the era's preference for complex, serialized storytelling within the Marvel Universe.
