Where it came from
Faceless and the Family: Maze of the Mechanical Aliens was a niche independent comic series published during the late 1980s, a period marked by an experimental surge in small-press science fiction titles. Issue number two continued the surrealist narrative thread established in the series premiere, focusing on themes of alienation and industrial dread that were characteristic of the underground comic aesthetic of the era.
The series is noted for its stark, high-contrast ink work and unconventional panel layouts, which sought to emphasize the disorienting nature of the title’s titular mechanical labyrinth. While the series did not achieve mainstream commercial success, it remains a point of interest for collectors of cult-classic independent comics due to its distinctive visual identity and the earnest, if avant-garde, approach of its anonymous creative team.
