Where it came from
Famous First Edition #3 was published in 1975 by DC Comics and reprint house Garland Publishing as part of their ambitious attempt to bring Golden Age comic book history to a new generation. This specific issue served as an oversized, hardcover facsimile of the original Action Comics #1, which introduced Superman to the world in 1938. The project aimed to preserve the cultural significance of early comic book storytelling by recreating the exact dimensions and content of the source material in a durable format for preservation.
The original content contained within this issue was the brainchild of writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. Their vision of a champion for the oppressed launched the superhero archetype, forever changing the trajectory of American pop culture. The Famous First Edition series was curated to honor this legacy, presenting the material with a high production value that appealed to serious historians and enthusiasts who wanted to experience the seminal work without the prohibitive cost or fragility of the surviving original newsprint copies.
