Where it came from
Famous First Edition #1, published by DC Comics in 1974, serves as a meticulous, oversized facsimile of Action Comics #1, the landmark 1938 debut of Superman. Produced during a period of rising interest in comic book history and the burgeoning collector market of the 1970s, this series was intended to preserve and honor the medium's foundational texts by reproducing them at their original broadsheet dimensions.
The reprint captures the historic cover art by Joe Shuster, famously depicting Superman lifting a green sedan. Because the original 1938 issue had become prohibitively expensive for the average reader, the Famous First Edition line offered a high-quality, archival-style experience that was well-received by fans and historians alike for its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the original layouts and advertisements while introducing a new generation to the dawn of the Golden Age of comics.
