Where it came from
Fantastic Four #128 was published by Marvel Comics in November 1972, arriving during a transitional period for the title. Following the lengthy and influential tenure of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the creative direction of the series saw a rotating roster of contributors. This specific issue features a story by Roy Thomas, who was instrumental in shaping the Marvel Universe during the 1970s, with pencils provided by Jim Starlin.
The artwork reflects Starlin's early contributions to the medium before he became legendary for his cosmic epics. The cover and interior panels represent the quintessential bronze age aesthetic, characterized by a shift toward more complex, often psychedelic narratives. While not the most famous issue of the run, it serves as a testament to the era's focus on experimental storytelling and the continuous evolution of Marvel's foundational super-team.
