Fantastic Four #9

Fantastic Four #9, published in December 1962, arrived during the early, formative period of the Marvel Age of Comics. Created by the legendary duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the issue serves as a hallmark of their collaborative energy, firmly establishing the team's dynamic within the burgeoning Marvel Universe. At this stage, the series was rapidly refining its character-driven narrative style, moving away from simple monster-of-the-month formulas toward a more serialized approach.

The interior art was provided by Jack Kirby, whose bold, kinetic pencils defined the visual vocabulary of the series, while the story focused on the team's encounter with the Sub-Mariner, a recurring antagonist whose complex relationship with the Fantastic Four provided both tension and depth. The issue is remembered by historians for its role in cementing the interpersonal conflicts that set Marvel's heroes apart from their contemporaries, contributing to the title's lasting reputation as the cornerstone of the company's expansion.
