Firestorm #96

Firestorm #96 was published by DC Comics in April 1990 as part of the ongoing series The Fury of Firestorm. This issue falls within the tenure of writer John Ostrander, who was widely recognized for shifting the book's tone toward more complex, geopolitical, and character-driven narratives, moving the title away from its traditional superhero roots to explore themes of environmentalism and nuclear anxiety.

The cover art and interior pencil work for this era were largely defined by the efforts of artists like Tom Mandrake, whose atmospheric and often gritty style was intended to complement Ostrander's dense storytelling. The title faced significant pressure during this period as the publisher sought to maintain relevance for a character whose central premise of nuclear fusion had become increasingly fraught in the post-Cold War landscape.
