Where it came from
Released in 1976 by DC Comics, Freedom Fighters #4 belongs to a short-lived series that revived a collection of characters originally owned by Quality Comics. This era of DC history was defined by a concerted effort to integrate these Golden Age archetypes, such as Uncle Sam, The Ray, and Phantom Lady, into the established DC Universe following their acquisition years prior.
The issue features cover art by Ernie Chan and interior work by artist Al Milgrom and writer Bob Rozakis. As part of a series intended to explore the political and social tensions of a parallel Earth, the design aimed to capture a gritty, wartime aesthetic that differentiated the Freedom Fighters from the more traditional Justice League titles of the 1970s. While the series struggled to find a long-term audience, it remains a notable example of DC's archival approach to character legacy.
