Where it came from
Fudanshi Kyōtō wa Kakushitai. (The Male Fujoshi Principal Wants to Hide It) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mikanuji. First serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Yuri Hime magazine, the work explores the comedic and often relatable struggles of a school principal who maintains a secret identity as a fujoshi—a fan of boys' love media. The series fits firmly within the 'gap moe' subgenre, contrasting the protagonist's professional, authoritative exterior with his passionate, hidden hobby.
Mikanuji’s artistic style in this volume is characterized by clean lines and expressive character designs that lean into the slapstick nature of the narrative. The design philosophy centers on balancing the irony of a male principal in a position of power navigating the tropes of a traditionally feminine-coded subculture. Upon its release, the volume was noted by readers for its lighthearted subversion of expectations and its affectionate look at the culture of fandom, finding a dedicated niche among fans of observational comedy manga.
