Gargoyles/Darkwing Duck #1

Released in 2024, this crossover event was published by Dynamite Entertainment as part of their ongoing efforts to revive and expand the shared literary universes of popular 1990s Disney Afternoon animation properties. The series serves as a bridge between the gritty, atmospheric world of Greg Weisman’s Gargoyles and the brightly colored, satirical superhero narrative of Darkwing Duck, reflecting a growing market demand for nostalgic intellectual property revivals among adult comic readers.

The issue was written by Aaron Sparrow, who has a long-standing association with the Darkwing Duck franchise, and features art by James Silvani. Their collaboration focused on maintaining the distinct tonal signatures of each show while forcing their contrasting protagonists into a shared mystery. The design and visual storytelling were received by fans as a faithful tribute to the original character models, balancing the gothic silhouettes of Manhattan's protectors with the slapstick, pulp-inspired aesthetic of St. Canard.
