Generation X-23 #3

Generation X-23, a limited series released in 2005, served as a bridge between the X-23 character's debut in the animated series X-Men: Evolution and her integration into mainstream Marvel Comics continuity. The series was designed to flesh out Laura Kinney's tragic origins as a clone of Wolverine, detailing her escape from the Weapon X program and her search for identity. This specific issue builds upon the gritty, noir-inspired aesthetic established by writer Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, who sought to anchor the character in a world of stark moral ambiguity.

The interior art for the series is credited to Billy Tan, whose style leans into the visceral, high-tension action sequences synonymous with the Weapon X narrative. By focusing on X-23's internal struggle and physical prowess, the creative team aimed to distinguish her from the broader X-Men line. Upon its release, the series was received as a definitive turning point for the character, solidifying her status as a permanent fixture in the Marvel Universe and setting the tone for her subsequent solo titles and membership in X-Force.
