Where it came from
Gigant #197602 is a notable entry in the long-running German science fiction magazine series, Gigant, which was published by Pabel-Moewig beginning in the 1970s. During this era, the West German market saw a surge in popularity for digest-sized paperback science fiction, often featuring space opera themes and pulp-inspired cover art intended to draw in commuters and newsstand browsers.
The series became a staple for fans of serialized genre fiction, heavily influenced by the aesthetic sensibilities of post-war European pulp illustrators. While specific creative credits for individual issues like #197602 were often house-stylized to maintain a consistent brand identity, the publication was well-regarded for its role in democratizing access to science fiction, serving as a reliable monthly source of translated short stories and original German contributions.
