Gisèle Alain #4

Gisèle Alain, written and illustrated by Mitsuru Hattori, debuted in the Japanese manga magazine Harta before being collected into volumes. The series follows the eponymous protagonist, a young woman in early 20th-century France who operates a unique business as a professional assistant or problem solver. The narrative style blends historical slice-of-life with light mystery, emphasizing the whimsical and often melancholic atmosphere of a reimagined European setting.

The character design reflects Hattori’s signature clean linework and expressive, slightly stylized aesthetic. Gisèle is frequently depicted in period-appropriate attire, which reinforces the series' focus on visual storytelling and atmosphere over high-stakes action. Upon its release, the series was received as a charming addition to the Harta catalog, praised by readers for its quiet, episodic nature and the nuanced portrayal of its lead character's interactions within her community.
