Gloomhaven: Fallen Lion #1

Gloomhaven: Fallen Lion #1 was released in 2020 as a digital-first prequel comic series designed to bridge the narrative gap between the original Gloomhaven board game and its sequel, Frosthaven. Published by Cephalofair Games in partnership with Wildfire, the series was created to flesh out the lore of the world and provide backstory for the Jaws of the Lion mercenary group. The initiative was part of a broader push by designer Isaac Childres to expand the Gloomhaven intellectual property into transmedia storytelling, allowing players to explore the franchise's grim fantasy setting beyond the tabletop experience.

The comic was written by Travis Hill, with artwork by Miles Burks, aiming to capture the stark, tactical, and slightly gritty aesthetic that defines the board game's visual identity. The narrative focuses on the formation of the mercenary band, grounding the complex world-building of the games in the character-driven perspective of its protagonists. Upon release, the series was well-received by the established Gloomhaven community, who appreciated the added depth provided to the core gameplay mechanics and the consistent artistic tone maintained throughout the series.
