Where it came from
Go Girl! #2, released in 2003, is part of the original miniseries created by writer Trina Robbins and artist Anne Timmons. Published by Image Comics, the series was conceived as a modern, empowering take on the traditional superhero genre, specifically designed to appeal to young girls by featuring a relatable teenage protagonist, Lindsay Goldman, who balances high school life with her secret identity as a masked crime-fighter. The title was a deliberate departure from the male-dominated tropes common in early 2000s comics.
The artistic vision for the series, executed by Timmons, utilized a clean, dynamic style reminiscent of classic silver-age comics but updated with contemporary character designs and fashion. The series was well-received by critics for its inclusive approach and its ability to provide a positive, non-sexualized female hero for a younger audience, filling a significant void in the comic market at the time.
