Grendel Tales: The Devil May Care #6

Grendel Tales: The Devil May Care #6 was published in 1994 as the concluding installment of a six-part miniseries within the expansive Grendel mythos created by Matt Wagner. This series specifically explored the dark, dystopian future established in the original Grendel saga, focusing on the character of Eppy Thatcher. The narrative was written by Darko Macan and illustrated by Edvin Biuković, a creative partnership that brought a gritty, atmospheric aesthetic to the Grendel universe during the mid-nineties expansion of the franchise under Dark Horse Comics.

The design and tone of this series were heavily influenced by the noir-inflected cyberpunk themes prevalent in comic book storytelling of the era. Edvin Biuković’s art was particularly noted for its fluid, expressive linework and moody shadows, which helped elevate the story beyond a standard action tie-in. Critics and readers of the time generally praised the collaboration for maintaining the high standards of character-driven storytelling established by Wagner, while allowing the guest creators to explore the psychological decay of a world governed by the Grendel identity.
