Where it came from
Guardians of the Galaxy #42 was published by Marvel Comics in October 1993, falling within the series' initial 1990s run. This title featured the original team of Guardians—Vance Astro, Martinex, Captain Charlie-27, Yondu, Nikki, and Starhawk—set in the 31st century. The creative direction at this time was spearheaded by writer and artist Michael Gallagher, who balanced the group’s space-faring adventures with the legacy of the Marvel Universe’s distant future.
The cover art and interiors from this period are emblematic of the early 90s aesthetic, characterized by dense, detailed linework and high-concept cosmic narratives. The series was designed to expand the scope of Marvel’s galactic mythos, often dealing with complex timelines and intergalactic politics. It remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the evolution of these characters long before their modern cinematic iterations were conceived.
