Gwebyeonhagpa Yotsuya Seonbaeui Goedam #1

Gwebyeonhagpa Yotsuya Seonbaeui Goedam, often recognized in English-speaking circles as The Ghost Stories of Senior Yotsuya, represents a distinct entry in the genre of Korean horror manwha that draws heavily from East Asian folkloric traditions. The first issue serves as the introduction to a series centered on the titular senior character, Yotsuya, whose role functions as a bridge between the mundane world and the unsettling supernatural occurrences that define the collection's narrative arc.

The series design is rooted in the aesthetic traditions of late 20th and early 21st-century horror manwha, prioritizing atmospheric tension and character-driven suspense over overt graphic violence. The illustrations utilize stark contrasts and detailed character designs to ground the uncanny nature of the ghosts within a familiar scholastic or social setting. Upon its release, the work was received as a competent addition to the genre, noted for its rhythmic storytelling and its ability to effectively modernize traditional spectral tropes for a contemporary readership.
