Hǎidào Zhànjì: Vinland Saga #28

Hǎidào Zhànjì, known internationally as Vinland Saga, is a historical seinen manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. First serialized in 2005, the series transitioned from Weekly Shōnen Magazine to the monthly publication Afternoon. The narrative follows Thorfinn, a young man navigating the brutal reality of Viking-age Europe while seeking a path toward peace and his legendary destination, Vinland. Yukimura, known for his meticulous research and thematic depth, intended the series to be a humanistic exploration of the nature of strength and the costs of conflict.

The twenty-eighth volume of the series continues the epic arc focused on the expedition to North America. The design and artistic direction reflect Yukimura’s evolution as a storyteller, moving from the visceral violence of early volumes toward a more philosophical and character-driven approach. Upon release, this installment maintained the series' reputation for high-quality production and narrative complexity, earning consistent critical praise for its ability to balance intense historical drama with profound reflections on pacifism and colonial tensions.
