Hana to Meoto: Taishō Dekiai Otogi-Zōshi #1

Hana to Meoto: Taishō Dekiai Otogi-Zōshi debuted as part of the flourishing shōjo and josei manga landscape in Japan, specifically tapping into the enduring fascination with the Taishō era. This period, characterized by the blending of traditional Japanese aesthetics with Western influence, provides a romantic and atmospheric backdrop for the series. The work explores the themes of arranged marriages and evolving intimacy, following the trend of 'dekiai' or doting narratives that have gained significant popularity among readers seeking escapist period dramas.

The character designs and illustrations were crafted to emphasize the elegance of the Taishō period, utilizing soft linework and expressive portrayals of the protagonists to ground the romantic tension. By focusing on the intimate domestic life of a newly wedded couple, the series captures a sense of quiet nostalgia. Upon release, the first volume was well-received by fans of historical romance, praised for its balance of period-accurate styling and the slow-burn emotional development characteristic of its genre.
