Hanako-san, Tabenai de #2

Hanako-san, Tabenai de is a manga series written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno, serialized in the mid-2000s. The series serves as an early example of the author's signature blend of supernatural horror and dark comedy, centering on a reimagined version of the classic Japanese urban legend Hanako-san. Published by Kadokawa Shoten, the series emerged during a period where unconventional reinterpretations of school folklore were finding significant traction within the seinen manga demographic.

The design of volume two continues the established aesthetic of the series, featuring character-driven cover art that contrasts whimsical, rounded character designs with unsettling, macabre thematic elements. The work was generally received as a stylistic precursor to Esuno's later, more widely recognized commercial successes, such as Future Diary, and is valued by collectors for documenting the evolution of his visual storytelling style and his penchant for blending occult mystery with high-school settings.
