Hawaiian Dick: The Last Resort #2

Hawaiian Dick: The Last Resort was released by Image Comics in 2007 as a follow-up to the original noir-inspired miniseries created by writer B. Clay Moore and artist Steven Griffin. Set in a stylized, atmospheric 1950s Hawaii, the story continues the adventures of detective Byrd, blending classic hardboiled tropes with local folklore and a distinctive, vibrant visual aesthetic that sets it apart from traditional grit-focused detective fiction.

The series is noted for its lush, illustrative style, which leans into the pulp sensibilities of the era while maintaining a contemporary narrative pace. Steven Griffin’s artwork is particularly celebrated for capturing the mood of the islands with a cinematic, slightly exaggerated quality that complements Moore’s sharp dialogue. Upon its release, the sequel was well-received by fans of indie comics who appreciated the creators' commitment to expanding the unique, genre-bending world established in the first volume.
