Heathcliff #14

Heathcliff #14 was published in 1987 by Star Comics, an imprint of Marvel Comics established in the mid-1980s to capture younger readers through licensed properties. At the time, George Gately’s orange tabby cat had reached peak cultural saturation, bolstered by a successful animated series that brought his suburban mischief to a wider television audience. This specific issue reflects the broader strategy of the Star Comics line, which utilized lighthearted, episodic storytelling to translate newspaper comic strip humor into the standard comic book format.

The visual identity of this issue remains consistent with the established character design created by George Gately, who began the Heathcliff strip in 1973. The artwork aimed to preserve the simple, punchy aesthetic of the daily strips while adapting them for a multi-page narrative. As part of a prolific run that spanned dozens of issues, this title was received primarily as accessible entertainment for children and fans of the long-running newspaper strip, serving as a staple of newsstand racks during the late eighties.
