Hello Darkness #23

Hello Darkness #23 was published by Boom! Studios as part of a series that navigates the intersection of psychological horror and surrealist narrative. The series emerged during a period of experimentation within independent comics, where publishers sought to bridge the gap between traditional pulp storytelling and more atmospheric, avant-garde graphic literature. This specific issue continues the series' exploration of isolation and the uncanny, themes that became hallmarks of the brand's identity.

The visual language of the issue draws heavily from neo-noir aesthetics, prioritizing high-contrast ink work and claustrophobic page compositions to emphasize the internal turmoil of the characters. While the creative teams on the series frequently rotated to provide fresh perspectives, the editorial mandate remained consistent: to use the medium of the comic book to provoke discomfort. Upon its release, the issue was noted by critics for its refusal to provide easy resolutions, cementing its place as a cult piece within the broader Boom! catalog.
