Where it came from
Published in 1986, History of the DC Universe was conceived by DC Comics to streamline the company's complex continuity following the seismic events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez were tasked with creating a definitive, cohesive record of the DC timeline, serving as a comprehensive bridge between the classic Silver Age stories and the newly established post-Crisis reality.
The design of this two-issue prestige format series is defined by George Pérez's dense, highly detailed illustrative style, which allowed him to condense decades of lore into a singular, visual epic. The series was met with significant critical appreciation for its ambition and utility, functioning as both an editorial guidebook for the publisher and a nostalgic, celebratory encyclopedia for long-time readers navigating a changing fictional landscape.
