Hitting Rewind With You #1

Hitting Rewind With You #1 emerged from the independent small-press comics movement of the early 21st century, a period defined by a surge in personal, slice-of-life narratives. Created as a serialized exploration of memory and interpersonal relationships, the series was designed to function as a visual diary, emphasizing intimate character studies over traditional genre tropes. Its publication sought to capture the fleeting nature of nostalgic connection, grounding fantastical or heightened emotional states in minimalist line work.

The design of this debut issue reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of the era's zine culture, favoring raw, unadorned layouts that prioritize the rhythm of dialogue and quiet moments. The creator aimed to strip away the artifice of standard comic book page structures, opting instead for a looser, more fluid panel arrangement that mirrors the subjective experience of recalling a conversation. Upon its initial release, the work was noted by contemporary reviewers for its earnest tone and its successful attempt to bridge the gap between abstract emotional expression and sequential storytelling.
