Where it came from
Hool!gan's was a short-lived independent comic book series published in the early 1990s, emerging during the peak of the small-press explosion. The series was designed to lean into the gritty, rebellious aesthetic popular in the underground scene of that era, utilizing a DIY sensibility that prioritized raw visual energy over traditional industry polish.
The creative direction focused on hyper-stylized action and counter-culture themes, characteristic of creators seeking to subvert mainstream tropes. While the series gained a modest cult following among aficionados of experimental independent comics, it remained a niche publication, reflecting the broader volatility and limited distribution channels inherent to the independent comic market of the period.
