Horeta Hareta Panda #2

Horeta Hareta Panda, or 'The Panda Who Loved and Was Loved,' was a short-lived Japanese manga series published in the early 1970s. Emerging during a period of intense fascination with giant pandas in Japan following the arrival of the first specimens at Ueno Zoo in 1972, the series sought to capitalize on the national craze. It offered a whimsical, anthropomorphic take on the creature, aligning with the era's preference for lighthearted, character-driven storytelling.

The series is noted for its simple, expressive art style characteristic of the shojo manga aesthetic of the decade. Created by anonymous or studio-based teams typical of the children's publications of that era, the narrative of the second issue continued the comedic trials of the titular panda navigating human society. While it did not achieve long-term critical acclaim or lasting status as a classic, it remains a charming artifact of a specific cultural moment when the panda became a ubiquitous symbol in Japanese pop culture.
