Where it came from
Human Target #2 was published in 1999 as part of the DC Comics Vertigo imprint's ongoing series written by Peter Milligan. The title revitalized the classic character Christopher Chance, a bodyguard who disguises himself as his clients to draw out assassins, moving the premise into a darker, more psychological space that reflected the mature tone of the Vertigo line during the late nineties.
The interior art for this run was primarily handled by Edvin Biuković, whose distinct, painterly style provided the atmospheric grit essential to the book's neo-noir aesthetic. The series was designed to explore themes of identity and personal dissolution, earning critical acclaim for its sophisticated narrative structure and the seamless integration of tension and character study, which helped cement Chance as a cult favorite within the DC canon.
