Iceman #1

Iceman #1, published by Marvel Comics in December 2017, marked the character's first ongoing solo series after decades of appearing as a core member of the X-Men. Written by Sina Grace and illustrated primarily by Alessandro Vitti, the series was designed to explore Bobby Drake's personal evolution and the complexities of his identity following his public coming-out as gay. The creative team aimed to balance superhero action with character-driven narrative, focusing on his responsibilities as a mentor and his struggles with family dynamics.

The series received generally positive critical attention for its earnest approach to LGBTQ+ themes and its commitment to the character's long-standing history within the Marvel Universe. Critics noted that the design of the book sought to modernize Iceman's internal monologue, moving beyond his traditional role as the comic relief of the original X-Men team to present a more grounded, introspective protagonist. It remains a significant milestone in Marvel's efforts to provide nuanced representation for its legacy characters.
