Iceman #3

Iceman #3 was published in 2017 as part of the third volume of the character's solo series, written by Sina Grace with art by Alessandro Vitti. This run was notable for its focus on the personal development and internal life of Bobby Drake as he navigated his identity as an openly gay superhero. The series sought to ground the character's fantastical abilities in the relatable challenges of adulthood, marking a significant evolution from his foundational appearances in the early X-Men titles.

The creative direction for this series leaned into the juxtaposition of Iceman’s immense cosmic power and his often messy social life. Vitti’s art style provided a clean, modern aesthetic that complemented Grace’s character-driven dialogue. Upon its release, the series was well-received by critics for its earnest tone and for giving one of Marvel’s original X-Men a platform to explore his queer identity with nuance and humor, helping to modernize the character for a contemporary audience.
