Where it came from
Il Giornalino is a long-running Italian weekly magazine for children and adolescents, published by the Society of St. Paul. Established in 1924, it became a cornerstone of Italian Catholic publishing, distinguishing itself by promoting moral education alongside high-quality comics and illustrated stories. Volume 77, number 21 reflects the magazine's later decades, during which it maintained its traditional format while adapting to modern graphic styles and contemporary themes relevant to its target demographic.
The publication famously served as a platform for prominent Italian illustrators and writers, including creators like Hugo Pratt, Sergio Toppi, and Benito Jacovitti. The design philosophy of the magazine centered on clear, engaging storytelling paired with vibrant, accessible illustrations that aimed to balance entertainment with formative content. Throughout its lengthy history, it was widely received as a reliable, family-friendly staple of Italian literary and artistic culture, often acting as a bridge between classic narrative traditions and evolving visual arts.
