Where it came from
Il Giornalino is a long-standing Italian weekly magazine founded in 1924, originally published by the Society of St. Paul. It was created with the intent to provide educational and moral guidance to youth through a blend of news, religious content, and comics. Throughout its extensive run, the publication became a cornerstone of Italian children's literature, surviving for nearly a century by adapting its editorial voice to shifting cultural landscapes while maintaining its commitment to wholesome storytelling.
The design and content of the magazine were shaped by numerous influential illustrators and writers, including notable figures such as Hugo Pratt and Sergio Toppi, who utilized the platform to reach generations of young readers. Issue number 40 of volume 85 appeared in a period where the publication was transitioning toward modern digital integration while preserving its classic aesthetic. It was received as a traditional touchstone in Italian media, valued for its high production quality and its role as a bridge between classic comic traditions and contemporary youth interests.
