Where it came from
Il Giornalino is a long-standing Italian weekly magazine for children and adolescents, published by the San Paolo Periodici group. It debuted in 1924 with a focus on combining educational content, moral guidance, and serialized comics. By the time this specific issue from 2011 was published, the magazine had established a storied legacy as a cornerstone of Italian youth literature, known for nurturing domestic talent while occasionally featuring adapted literary classics.
The design and editorial direction during this era aimed to balance traditional values with contemporary graphic sensibilities. While the magazine hosted work from legendary artists like Hugo Pratt and Sergio Toppi in its earlier decades, issues from the 2010s often featured a blend of popular licensed characters and original series tailored to a shifting media landscape. This particular issue reflects the magazine's late-period efforts to remain relevant in a digital age while maintaining its distinct, catholic-leaning identity and high-quality artistic contributions.
