Il Segno di Zorro #v. 3 no. 6

Il Segno di Zorro was a prominent Italian comic book series published by Edizioni Audace, the house that would later become Sergio Bonelli Editore. Emerging during the mid-20th century, the series capitalized on the enduring popularity of the masked vigilante character originally created by Johnston McCulley. These publications provided Italian readers with serialized adventures that often combined American pulp sensibilities with the distinct storytelling rhythm of the Italian fumetti tradition.

The visual identity of these issues was defined by striking, dynamic cover art often executed by some of the most skilled illustrators of the era. These artists aimed to emphasize Zorro’s swashbuckling athleticism and his role as a champion of the oppressed, utilizing high-contrast ink work and dramatic compositions to stand out on newsstands. The series remains a notable example of how foreign heroic archetypes were adapted and reinterpreted for a dedicated Italian readership throughout the post-war period.
