Il Segno di Zorro #v. 6 no. 2

Il Segno di Zorro was a long-running Italian comic book series published by Edizioni Audace, later known as Bonelli, which served as a staple of post-war Italian adventure literature. Launched during a period when Western-themed serials were immensely popular in Italy, the series sought to bring the swashbuckling legacy of Johnston McCulley’s masked vigilante to a younger readership. By the time this specific issue from volume six arrived, the series had established a consistent aesthetic, characterized by dramatic, ink-heavy panels that emphasized action and suspense over intricate background details.

The artistic direction for this era focused on the classic pulp tradition, featuring illustrators who leaned into the stark contrasts and dynamic compositions iconic to the golden age of Italian fumetti. While many of the contributors remained anonymous or operated under house pseudonyms during this period, the design intent remained focused on accessible, high-octane storytelling. The series was well-received by its contemporary audience, becoming a cultural touchstone for readers who grew up during the mid-20th-century boom of serialized Western and heroic fiction in Italy.
