Illustrerade klassiker #72

Illustrerade klassiker, the Swedish adaptation of the American Classics Illustrated series, began publication in 1956 as a bridge between educational literature and the popular medium of comics. Issue number 72, which features an adaptation of Jules Verne's 'The Mysterious Island', was part of a long-running initiative by Williams Förlag to bring canonical works of world literature to a younger Scandinavian audience who were increasingly drawn to visual storytelling.

The interior art for this specific issue follows the established house style of the Gilberton Company, which often utilized a rotating pool of talented illustrators to provide a grounded, semi-realistic aesthetic. The series was generally well-received by parents and educators for its commitment to literary accuracy, though it faced periodic critique from literary purists who felt that simplifying complex novels into a condensed comic format lacked the depth of the original texts.
