Where it came from
Immortal Regis is a South Korean manwha series created by writer Gaonbi and illustrator Juder, first serialized in 2010. The story centers on Jae-in, a high school student who is accidentally killed by a magical anomaly and subsequently resurrected in a chaotic, war-torn fantasy dimension, forcing him to navigate a new life as a powerful but reluctant immortal. The series is part of the broader wave of Korean dark fantasy titles that gained international traction during the expansion of digital manhwa platforms in the early 2010s.
The second issue continues the establishment of the series' dense world-building, focusing on the protagonist's struggle to adjust to his new reality while contending with the politics of the Immortal realm. Illustrators Gaonbi and Juder aimed for a sharp, high-contrast aesthetic that emphasizes the gritty atmosphere of the setting and the stylized combat sequences characteristic of the genre. Upon its release, the work was noted for its departure from traditional school-life tropes, though it remains a niche entry in the global manhwa market.
