Initial D (Omnibus) #11

Initial D, created by Shuichi Shigeno, first appeared in Weekly Young Magazine in 1995. The series quickly became a cultural phenomenon in Japan, defined by its focus on street racing in the mountains, particularly the practice of drifting. The omnibus format for the English-language release, published by Kodansha Comics, was designed to compile several volumes of the original manga into larger, more accessible editions for international readers, allowing fans to follow Takumi Fujiwara’s evolution from a tofu delivery driver to a legendary racer.

The art style of Initial D is noted for its focus on the dynamic movement of vehicles during high-speed mountain passes. Shigeno utilized a distinct, energetic illustration style that emphasizes the visceral sensation of speed and the technical aspects of car mechanics. The omnibus editions maintain the integrity of this original artwork, and the series is widely regarded for its influence on automotive culture, bringing the niche world of drifting into global mainstream consciousness.
