Johann und Pfiffikus #13

Johann und Pfiffikus, known originally as Johan et Pirlouit, began as a series by the legendary Belgian cartoonist Peyo in the 1950s. Issue 13, titled La Flûte à six trous, is a significant entry in the series that chronicles the adventures of a medieval page and his diminutive, mischievous companion. The series was created for the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Spirou, representing the golden age of European adventure comics where themes of chivalry and fantasy were expertly balanced with humor.

Peyo developed the visual language of these characters to reflect a clean, expressive style that would define his studio's output for decades. His design approach prioritized readability and dynamic character interactions, which helped the series garner wide critical acclaim and popularity across Europe. The reception was consistently positive, cementing the duo as iconic figures in the bande dessinée canon and establishing the creative groundwork that eventually led to the global success of the Smurfs, who first appeared within these pages.
