Ka-Zar the Savage #17

Ka-Zar the Savage number 17, released in September 1982, is a notable installment in the long-running Marvel Comics series focused on the jungle adventurer Kevin Plunder. This era of the series was marked by a shift toward more visceral storytelling, largely defined by the work of writer Bruce Jones and illustrator Brent Anderson. The creative team aimed to blend traditional pulp adventure with a more mature, atmospheric tone that explored the isolation of the Savage Land.

This specific issue is frequently cited by collectors for its striking cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz, whose distinctive, painterly style brought a gritty intensity to the character. Within the narrative, the issue continues to develop the complex relationship between Ka-Zar and Shanna the She-Devil, maintaining the series' reputation for prioritizing character-driven drama alongside its signature action sequences. It remains a representative example of Marvel's 1980s efforts to push the boundaries of their secondary titles.
