Ka-Zar the Savage #22

Ka-Zar the Savage #22 was published by Marvel Comics in May 1983 as part of a series that revitalized the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs-inspired character for a modern audience. The title was characterized by its departure from traditional superhero tropes, often embracing a more mature, gritty tone that explored the savage nature of the prehistoric Savage Land. This specific issue features the work of writer Bruce Jones, who was instrumental in defining the atmospheric and psychological direction of the series during this period.

The interior art for this issue was provided by Brent Anderson, whose detailed and kinetic style helped establish the visceral aesthetic associated with the title's peak. The series is frequently cited by collectors for its consistent quality in storytelling and its commitment to the pulp-adventure roots of the genre. Upon release, it served as a notable example of Marvel's willingness to experiment with standalone narrative arcs within established continuity, earning a dedicated following among fans of sword-and-sorcery and jungle-themed adventure comics.
