Kamen Rider Kuuga #10

Kamen Rider Kuuga, airing in 2000, marked the beginning of the Heisei era of the Kamen Rider franchise. It was designed to revitalize the series by grounding the concept of a masked hero in a realistic, contemporary police-drama setting. The aesthetic was a departure from the campier Showa-era entries, favoring a more serious tone and a protagonist, Yusuke Godai, who fought to protect the smiles of others rather than solely out of a sense of vengeance.

The character design was helmed by the legendary Tamotsu Shinohara, who focused on a sleek, ancient-warrior motif intended to look both organic and armored. The tenth episode, titled 'Fierce Battle,' serves as a pivotal moment in the early narrative, emphasizing the grueling physical toll the hero's transformations take on his human body. Upon its release, the series was widely praised for its mature storytelling and remains a touchstone for modern tokusatsu design.
