Kariage-kun #69

Kariage-kun is a long-running gag manga series created by Masashi Ueda, first serialized in 1980 within the pages of Futabasha's Manga Action. The series centers on the titular character, Eiichi Kariage, a salaried employee known for his penchant for mischievous pranks and his ability to disrupt the rigid hierarchy of the Japanese corporate environment. Issue #69 belongs to the mid-period of the series, a time when the character had firmly established himself as a cultural touchstone for the frustrations and absurdities of office life.

The aesthetic of the series is defined by Ueda’s minimalist, four-panel comic strip style, which prioritizes immediate visual impact and punchlines over complex plotting. Design-wise, the covers often feature Kariage in various humorous scenarios or distinctive poses that highlight his deadpan personality. The series has been widely praised for its longevity and its consistent ability to provide a satirical mirror to Japanese working culture, remaining a staple of the seinen manga genre for over four decades.
