Where it came from
Ken Parker #8, titled 'La lunga pista' or 'The Long Trail', was published in 1978 as part of the monthly Western comic book series created by Giancarlo Berardi and Ivo Milazzo. Following the success of the character's debut in 1977, this issue continued the series' departure from traditional genre tropes by focusing on introspective themes and the complexities of human nature within the rugged landscape of the American frontier.
The art and narrative direction were guided by the distinct, naturalistic style of Milazzo, whose character illustrations emphasized realism and emotional depth over the action-heavy panels common in contemporary Italian comics. The series was well-received by critics and readers for its sophisticated storytelling, eventually becoming a foundational work in European mature-audience comics and marking a significant evolution in the Western genre.
