Where it came from
Kimi ga Kemono ni Naru Mae ni, written and illustrated by Yuu Saeki, began serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in 2018. The series follows the protagonist Hajime Kanda, who is haunted by the mystery of a tragic terrorist attack committed by his childhood friend. The seventh volume, released as part of the ongoing suspense drama, continues to explore themes of psychological trauma, moral ambiguity, and the dark consequences of human fragility within a high-stakes thriller narrative.
The manga is characterized by Saeki's stark, moody artistic style, which emphasizes the unsettling atmosphere of the mystery genre. Saeki's design choices prioritize character expressions and tense pacing to heighten the reader's sense of unease. Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its unconventional premise and its unflinching look at how ordinary lives can be irrevocably altered by catastrophic events, establishing itself as a notable entry in modern seinen manga.
