Where it came from
Konyaku Hakisareta Node, Suki ni Suru Koto ni Shita., or I Was Dismissed from My Engagement, So I Decided to Do What I Want, began as a light novel series before being adapted into this manga iteration illustrated by Amaui Shiro. The series emerged from the popular Japanese web novel trend of the mid-2010s, specifically the 'villainess' subgenre, which frequently explores themes of autonomy and re-evaluating traditional romantic tropes found in historical fantasy settings.
The second volume continues the narrative arc of the protagonist as she navigates life after her broken engagement. Amaui Shiro’s character design emphasizes the protagonist's transition from societal expectations to personal liberation, a visual approach that resonated with readers of the serialized format. The series is published under the Dengeki Comics NEXT label, fitting into a broader market of character-driven manga designed for readers who enjoy subversions of medieval-inspired shojo narratives.
