Where it came from
This volume is the third installment in a manga adaptation of a Japanese light novel series written by Minakami Nagi. The story belongs to the popular 'villainess' and 'misunderstanding' subgenres of shōjo and josei fantasy, focusing on a protagonist who finds herself in a politically charged fake engagement with a prince from a neighboring kingdom after being discarded by her original fiancé. Published by Kadokawa under the Dengeki Comics NEXT imprint, the series leverages established tropes of courtly intrigue and romantic comedy common in modern web-novel-to-print transitions.
The character designs and illustrations for the manga adaptation are handled by artist Umi Kajiya. The visual style follows the aesthetic standards of contemporary fantasy manga, emphasizing expressive character portraits and detailed historical-fantasy costuming intended to appeal to readers of light-hearted romance. As part of a serialized digital and print release, the volume reflects the broader trend of Japanese publishing houses adapting serialized web fiction into tangible media to cater to an audience interested in escapist narratives centered on perceived social redemption and complicated royal relationships.
